7/8/2023 0 Comments Warriors the new prophecy set![]() ![]() In this game, more than in any other sport, if an all star-caliber player just doesn’t want to be a part of a team anymore, he can demand to be traded and the team basically has to accede to his demands. And frankly, I like our other guys better than their other guys. If so, it comes down to the “other” guys on the floor. Not knowing Thursday’s result at this writing, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Steve Kerr found a way to make Anthony Davis just another good player. In game one, he had ownage on the Warriors in every aspect of the game. has LeBron James, but wait! The Warriors have that Steph Curry guy. The Lakers bring a different set of issues. And that was the difference in the series. ![]() But Kevon Looney made a mobile big man seem insignificant. I wasn’t sure the W’s could match the speed of the Kings and I thought a mobile big man like Domantas Sabonis would pose a problem for the Warriors’ “bigs.” The Kings were quicker. Going into this series, I honestly thought this would be an easier matchup for the Warriors than the Sacramento Kings. ![]() Who guards who? Who dictates the tempo of the game? Who has the stronger bench? Who gets to the free-throw line more? And those variables change with the opponent. Once again, because of Thursday morning deadlines for this weekly yarn, and Thursday night games for the compelling Warriors-Lakers playoff series, I can’t pontificate on what happened Tuesday nor what happened on Thursday. ![]()

A significant contribution this book has made is debunking the popular misconception that the suburbs were born after WWII. The author revisits the very beginnings of the Sherlock stories and offers insight and exposition on what the original reader has been missing. ![]() This is not a continuation of the Sherlock stories but a re-imagining, based on the premise that the Cthulhu Mythos exists and has influenced Holmes. Lovegrove clearly knows both worlds exceptionally well, evident in the clever blending that makes up Sherlock Holmes and the Shadwell Shadows. Auguste Dupin while Lovecrafts work was strongly infuenced by Poe's distinct voice - clearly seen in works such as thee Cthulhu novella Shadow over Insmouth. ![]() Both writers are said to have been influenced by Edgar Allan Poe - Sherlock Holmes following Poe's C. I've never considered combining the world of Holmes with that of Cthulhu (another favourite of mine) but on refection it does make some sense. The books are wonderful pieces of classic fiction (my favourite being the Hounds of the Baskervilles) and modern interpretations such as those penned by Moffat and Gattiss help to keep this Centenarian alive in the minds of millions. I've always had a soft spot for Sherlock Holmes. ![]() 7/7/2023 0 Comments Event Factory by Renee Gladman![]() ![]() ![]() A 2014-15 fellow at Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University and recipient of a 2016 Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grant and a 2017 Lannan Foundation Writing Residency in Marfa, TX, she lives and makes work in New England. William interprets what has been said so that events are not just events but the expression of what was going on people’s minds at that time. The main story in this book is the sepoy mutiny but it has been recounted in a way that sees things with a dispassionate eye. This is important in a work where much has to be interpreted and read between the lines. William Dalrymple has the great advantage of having lived in India and so he knows the way people think and feel. But here William gives us the facts he has gathered from written sources. Our knowledge of history is fragmented and often reliant on tales that are told by people several decades or even centuries after an event has happened. “The Last Mughal” by William Dalrymple is an extraordinary gathering of detailed information about a time we know so little about. ![]() ![]() ![]() La novela gráfica de la saga más vendida de Rick Riordan. Eleanor comes from a very dysfunctional family. ![]() However both characters where so unique and well written that I felt personally intertwined between their story. Some romances can be very one sided and you read through it constantly having to guess about the secondary character thus not developing as much a connection with them. Having the ability to switch between what both characters were feeling and their backgrounds made this book whole. Shortly following, it appeared that Rowell had structured this book to be in both Eleanor's and Park's point of view. Rainbow Rowell has truly outdone herself and in my opinion this is her best writing so far.įrom the very first page I knew I would enjoy this book, even at this early stage the characters appeared perfectly cast and I could immediately identify with them. Eleanor and Park is a beautifully crafted masterpiece of a book. ![]() |
